What to Expect - K&B's Design Process

Interior Design is a uniquely collaborative process. Working with an interior designer is a partnership not a dictatorship on either side. The best designs are a combination of the designer's expertise and the client's honest input. Putting these two pieces together is when something special is created. At K&B Interiors, we firmly believe this and have even created our own 6-step process to ensure 5-star results and a 5-star experience every single project.

Here is our 6-step collaborative design process from start to finish:

Step 1

LET'S TALK... about your home's needs

We begin our process with a free discovery phone call to hear about your current home issues, understand your project timing, and gather any other relevant information that may impact the scope of work.

Step 2

LET'S SEE... your home in person

After we have talked briefly on the phone, it is time to schedule your in-person home consultation. This typically lasts 1 hour and is a time when we get a better idea of your home style preferences, talk about budget and planning, take any necessary measurements, take current state pictures, provide preliminary thoughts, and answer any questions you might have regarding next steps and our process. This is a paid consultation and goes toward the overall design service cost, should you choose to partner with us.

Step 3

LET'S GET STARTED... to make the partnership official

After the consultation, a contract is drafted that outlines the scope of work, payment terms, legal jargon, as well as the total service cost. It is usually a 50% deposit at the time of signing, but this depends on the scale of the project. You will also receive a Welcome Packet, which will help you understand what it is like working with us to make the process as smooth and stress-free as possible.

Step 4

LET'S START DESIGNING... from floor plans to visualizations

The design process starts with space planning, followed by the creation of a mood board that visually represents the desired look and feel of the space, including colors, materials, and style. For smaller projects, this step may be omitted. Once the mood board is finalized, we create 2D concept boards (or "mockups") showcasing the proposed furnishings. If needed, 3D renderings can also be provided.

Step 5

LET'S GO SHOPPING... and make the right purchases

Now it is time to start ordering products! If it's a time-sensitive project, then we may have already ordered major things like a sofa to make sure the timing works out.

Step 6

LET'S WRAP IT UP... with some finishing touches

As things are being delivered, we work on decorating the space with the right curtains, pillows, and accessories to make sure they coordinate perfectly with your new furniture pieces. Nothing is worse than investing in furniture only to have the wrong dècor pieces to complement them!
